People's Ice Company

The ice house was considered a necessity for the folks who had an ice box. Blocks, or half blocks of ice could be purchased.

The original little ice house was replaced in 1938. The new ice house was built on the site of the old and smaller building. At a height of eighteen feet, the brick building, with sides 23 feet wide, had a capacity of 120 three hundred pound blocks, or 36,000 pounds. The vault was equipped with a vending machine. A dock on the front (west) and an office in the south portion of the building completed the new building.
Not only could a person get blocks of ice, but later could get sacks of crushed ice.

Like so many other things, time took its toll on the facility and the building was torn down about 1960.
